With more than two decades of award-winning performances, Heather Matarazzo has become a beloved presence in both major studio films and independent cinema. She captured audiences early, winning the Independent Spirit Award at just 14, and later starred alongside Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
Never one to shy away from authenticity, Heather made headlines in 2005 when she quipped she was looking for a “princess charming” instead of a prince. Since then, she’s continued to pair her artistry with powerful advocacy. On HBO Max’s Equal, Heather portrayed Phillis Lyon, a pioneering activist who co-founded the first national lesbian organization and, with her partner, became the first LGBTQ+ couple to marry in San Francisco in 2008.
Her commitment to visibility and equality was honored in 2018 with the HRC Visibility Award, where she declared: “We are all worthy of love. We are all worthy of life. We are worthy of being seen and being here. We are worthy of being, period.”
