Our final Autumn dance will be Sat., November 14 at 7:00.
NO FAMILY DANCE HOUR- sorry, we had to cancel this month.
As always, families are welcome for the regular dance.
Our COMMUNITY DANCE highlights dances that are easy to learn and especially geared to those who may be attending a contra dance for the first time. No fancy footwork or prior experience is required.
What is CONTRA DANCING?
Contra dancing is a high-energy, social American folk tradition.
There’s no need to come with a partner- you’re welcome to come alone, to come with a friend or partner- you’re welcome to bring a bunch of people!
Unlike some other social dances, contra is a group activity. Over the course of each dance, you interact with everyone in your contra line. Your partner is like a teammate, moving with you up and down the line. For each new dance people generally change partners and dance with someone else. It’s part of the fun to dance with many different partners.
Each dance is carefully taught. Wear comfortable shoes and casual clothes. Water bottles are recommended.
Nathaniel Diamond-Jones, fiddle, Gary Dolinsky, guitar, and Rose Sheehan, caller will provide a fun evening of good tunes, movement, connection and community!
A NOTE ABOUT SHOES:
MAGMA has a Marley floor, a specialized vinyl that naturally has a lot of built-in grip. Because this floor is naturally "sticky," wearing shoes with too much traction can cause your feet to stick and put undue strain on knees and ankles. Instead wear clean, non-grippy, low-tread shoes with smooth soles (like worn sneakers, suede, or soft leather). You want just enough glide to counter the floor's natural grip. Socks or bare feet work great too!
Suggested Contribution: $15-$25, under 16 years-FREE
No one turned away for lack of funds
