Join the Canvas Institute Chess Club for an engaging weekly program where young people can learn, play, build confidence, and sharpen their strategic thinking in a fun and supportive environment.
Led by a professional chess instructor, participants will learn the fundamentals of chess, improve their skills through guided instruction and gameplay, and develop abilities that extend far beyond the chessboard.
Whether your child has never played before or already knows how to play, all skill levels are welcome.
The Chess Club is already in progress, and new participants are welcome to join at any time.

What a session looks like
Every Wednesday, participants come together for a combination of professional instruction, practice, and friendly gameplay:
- Guided instruction — learn chess fundamentals, strategy, tactics, openings, and techniques based on your current skill level
- Open play — practice what you learn through friendly matches with other participants
- Professional coaching — receive guidance from a professional chess instructor to help improve your decision-making and overall game
- Skill building — strengthen critical thinking, concentration, patience, planning, and problem-solving
- Confidence building — learn how to make decisions, recover from mistakes, and approach challenges strategically
- Snacks & drinks — provided during each session
Chess boards and pieces are provided. Just bring yourself and be ready to play.

Young people of all skill levels are welcome.
- Complete beginners — learn how the pieces move, understand the rules, and begin playing your first games
- Developing players — improve your focus, strategy, planning, and understanding of the game
- Experienced players — sharpen your skills, enjoy consistent competition, and challenge yourself against other players
Whether your child wants to learn chess for the first time, improve their current skills, or simply enjoy friendly competition, the Canvas Institute Chess Club provides a welcoming environment to learn, connect, grow, and have fun.
Membership & cost
$50 per month — price is negotiable.
Families registering multiple children may receive a more affordable rate.

- Weekly Wednesday chess sessions
