Canterbury’s Christmas celebrations revealed as the festive market returns to the historic Cathedral

Canterbury is the perfect Christmas destination for visitors in search of a magical experience in 2024. The world-famous Cathedral, cobbled streets, and medieval landmarks are within one hour’s train journey from central London. 

The traditional festive market and Christmas lights have delighted visitors and residents for years, but 2024 is shaping up to be its most magical year yet.

Remember, you can get to Canterbury faster than Father Christmas, with Southeastern high-speed trains taking just 55 minutes from London. Like Santa, this means you can enjoy a warming spirit during your visit. So, bring your friends and family, and enjoy a magical time in Canterbury!

Get ready for the sensational celebration of Christmas in Canterbury with the Christmas Light Parade!

Launching on Friday 15 November 2024 the event attracts thousands of visitors as the city’s medieval streets will dazzle with six miles of twinkling lights, delightful festive window displays, a dozen Christmas trees, snowfall in Rose Square (days and times vary), and visits from Father Christmas at Fenwick department store.

• Large illuminated stars
• 200+ glowing lanterns crafted by local schools
• No Limits Street Band
• Christmas characters and Bagpuss!

Event Schedule:

6 pm - The Parade departs from Westgate Towers

6.45 pm - Parade arrives at Canterbury Cathedral Precincts

6.50 pm – Celebrate the start of Christmas with the Lord Mayor and The Marlowe Pantomime Cast and live music with Robbie White.

8 pm - Christmas Market closes
