The Canterbury Soul Weekender is now firmly established as an annual highlight on the soul calendar and continues to go from strength to strength. This coming September marks its 4th year, and it’s shaping up to be bigger, bolder, and better than ever.
Once again, the Weekender will attract DJs and soul lovers from across New Zealand, Australia, and beyond, coming together to celebrate the very best in soul music. Expect top selectors digging deep into their vinyl collections, delivering everything from classic Northern Soul and Motown anthems of the 60s and 70s through to uplifting Modern Soul and contemporary dancefloor movers — all played with passion, knowledge, and love for the music.
We kick off on Thursday 3rd September from 7pm with a free-entry meet-up event ( venue to be confirmed), a perfect chance to catch up with familiar faces and welcome newcomers.
Weekender Passes will give you access to all main events across Friday 4th, Saturday 5th, and Sunday 6th September.
• Friday & Saturday: 7pm – 1am
We return to the much-loved Blue Smoke at The Tannery, Woolston, Christchurch.
• Sunday: 2pm – 11pm
We head back into the city again this year for a soulful finale at The Engineers Bar,
178 St Asaph Street, Christchurch.
Come along to hear some of the best and rarest soul tunes around, dance until your feet ache, enjoy a drink (or five) with friends old and new, and soak up the welcoming, friendly atmosphere the Canterbury Soul Weekender is known for.
While you’re here, take time to explore Christchurch — a city where cutting-edge architecture sits comfortably alongside some of New Zealand’s oldest buildings, all framed by parks, gardens, and the beautiful River Avon. There’s no better time than the September Weekender to uncover the city’s many hidden gems.
Discover vibrant street art, quirky bars and cafés, ride the vintage tram, punt on the Avon, or head up to the Port Hills gondola for sweeping views across the city, Canterbury Plains, and towards the Southern Alps. If you’re staying longer, venture further afield to explore the Southern Alps and Great Alpine Lakes.
Christchurch is an easy city to get around, with a wide range of accommodation options in the city centre. While the main Weekender venue is outside the CBD, it’s easily accessible — just a 15-minute drive or bus ride.
Tickets will be released in April 2026, with the first release being Weekender Passes only. Numbers are limited — we sold 95% of capacity last year, and interest is already strong.
Keep an eye on the Canterbury Soul Weekender Facebook page for ticket announcements and updates.
