About this Event
DESCRIPTION
- Let them eat cake. And cannoli. And stromboli. And tomato pie. And pho. And tacos. Well, let’s just say this: if your appetite has a passport, South Philly is ready to stamp it. Long known as the heart of Italian American Philadelphia, this neighborhood has grown into one of the city’s great food playgrounds—equal parts old-school, hard-working, immigrant-built, and gloriously overfed.
- Here, corner bakeries, family-run delis, butcher shops, taquerias, noodle spots, cafés, and restaurants tell the story of a neighborhood that has never stayed still for long. South Philly still wears its Italian roots proudly, but over the years it has welcomed flavors, families, and traditions from across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and beyond. The result is a streetscape where you can chase century-old comfort food, next-level street food, sweet pastries, savory specialties, and some of the boldest flavors in the city without ever leaving a few square miles.
- This is not a dainty little nibble-and-chat experience for people who think black pepper is adventurous. This is South Philly: rich, messy, delicious, and built by people who know food is love, pride, identity, and occasionally a full-contact sport. Come hungry, wear good shoes, and get ready to SEEK out the neighborhood’s most irresistible bites, EXPLORE the cultures and communities that made them possible, and WANDER the streets where generations of Philadelphians learned to eat globally.
- This is not a kosher, vegetarian, vegan friendly, or restrictive diet tour!!! We respect everyone's palettes equally, but this is designed for omnivores with an emphasis on meat and sweets
- You are welcome to bring extra money (cash only at some places) and purchase more!
- This is a walking and eating tour of the city. Part of the cost of the tour will go to purchasing small samples to taste or larger items to share with the group at stops.
- We will provide utensils, napkins, plates, wipes, sanitizer, and other necessary items
- If you plan on not partaking in any sampling at all, please inform your guide at the start of the day
- Approximately 4.5 miles worth of walking
