Meet at 7.30am at the Kent Street Weir car park. The walk follows a 5km circuit along the Canning River, viewing a large selection of bush and waterbirds. Over 110 species have been recorded in this area. Commonly observed waterbirds include: cormorants, swamphens, ibis, pelican, egret, ducks and spoonbills.
First set aside for public use in the 19th century, today the park consists of large areas of parkland and extensive wetlands managed for the protection of biodiversity.
Bring a chair and morning tea to have while we do a combined bird list.
After morning tea, we will visit Wilson Park to look for more birds. It is a short walk of about 400 metres from the Canning River Café.
