About this Event
Our local volunteer wildlife rescuer, Donna Dorner, needs your help!!
This last year Donna has had to rescue dozens of injured birds and wildlife because of trash, fishing line, and hooks that’s left around the ponds and neighborhoods.
Most of those injuries and deaths would stop if the trash wasn’t there!
So, please join volunteers from the South Carolina Aquarium and Coastal Master Naturalists Association on September 28th from 10am to Noon for a Cane Bay Clean Up!!
Donna can’t do this without your help, which is why we’re bringing these two organizations to get the ball rolling.
We’ll meet in the Cane Bay Elementary School parking lot to distribute supplies, give instructions, assign cleanup locations, and then spread out from there to remove litter and plastic pollution around the lakes and ponds.
We’ll use the Litter Journal, a project of the South Carolina Aquarium Citizen Science app, to document the litter as it is picked up. No prior experience is necessary, and all instructions and data sheets will be provided. Users with the app on their mobile device will have the option to input the data directly or to use a paper data sheet.
Supplies for the cleanup (including gloves, bags, and grabbers) will be provided by the South Carolina Aquarium. Following the cleanup, everyone should return to the High School to drop off the litter, supplies, and data sheets.
Please note: Dress for the weather, bring a reusable water bottle and wear closed-toe shoes. We’ll bring a water cooler for refilling, so please be sure to stay hydrated.
