Candlelight Stroll
Who: Fort Sill Museums
What: Historical reenactors lead visitors around the Old Post Quadrangle on foot by candlelight. Visitors are able to interact with historical reenactors portraying US Deputy Marshalls at the guardhouse, Buffalo Soldiers at the 1870’s cavalry barracks, Chaplains at the old post chapel, WWI soldiers in front of the First School of Fire, and the first commander of Ft. Sill and his wife (COL Benjamin and Alice Grierson) at the Sherman House. This event is free, but attendees must pick up tickets in advance.
Where: : Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum, 435 Quanah Road, Fort Sill, 73503.
When: Sunday 13 DEC. 1730-2200. Tickets are free but must be picked up in person and in advance. Each ticket will assign the holder a specific time to start the tour. Tickets will be available starting 17 NOV at 1000 and can be picked up at the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum’s Visitors Center. Tickets are first come first serve and will be issued until they are gone.
Why: This event educates the Lawton/Fort Sill community on what life was like at Fort Sill and in the west during the 1870’s and gives them a hands-on experience they would not normally get to have. It also is a nice way to show what Christmas was like in the 1870’s and is a way to celebrate the holidays.
