Rob is the heart of our family—the steady presence we all lean on. He’s a devoted husband and an incredible father to our four children: Scott, Anthony, Emily, and Steven. Our lives shifted forever last Thanksgiving when Rob’s mom noticed a lump on his neck as we gathered around the table. What seemed small at the time quietly became months of fear, unanswered questions, and waiting. In March 2025, we received the diagnosis that stopped us in our tracks: throat cancer.
Since that day, life has been a blur of hospital rooms, doctor appointments, treatment plans, and emotional highs and lows we never imagined facing. Rob began an aggressive course of treatment at the University of Michigan in Brighton—a long, exhausting drive from our home in Grand Rapids. The distance and constant appointments have taken a heavy toll, keeping our family apart when we need each other most.
Our kids are trying to be strong in their own ways. Scott serves in the Army National Guard, Anthony is a Marine, Emily is juggling her senior year while taking college courses, and Steven pours his heart into sports. They show resilience every day, but the ache of having their dad away was undeniable. Even our dog, Lily, seemed to sense the emptiness, offering quiet comfort in a house that didn’t feel the same without Rob’s laughter and presence.
Every day that we missed him. Every day we hoped. And every day we held and hold onto faith that this difficult chapter will one day fully be behind us.
