Cancelling Justice? The Decline of Legal Education and Critical Reasoning

Hosted by the Puerto Rico Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society, this dinner reception will feature Ilya Shapiro, senior fellow and director of constitutional studies at the Manhattan Institute, who will bring us up to speed on the apparent crisis in higher education: the army of non-teaching educrats that either distracts from the educational mission by providing therapeutic coddling or actively prevents truth-seeking by enforcing an ideological orthodoxy. Channelling from his latest book, Lawless: The Miseducation of America's Elites, which reminds that schools' goal is teaching future lawyers to uphold the rule of law while mastering the art of critical reasoning, Ilya will reflect on why instilling a culture of academic freedom and of respect for opposing views are essential.

The event will be held at Antonio’s Restaurant main dining room. Registration starts at 6:30 pm and the dinner and CLE will be from 7:00 pm to at least 8:00 pm. Finally, a (cash bar) networking reception will last until at least 10:00 pm. As a preapproved CLE provider in Puerto Rico, the organizer will credit 1 hour of general CLE credits. The price of the CLE ticket includes an appetizer, a main course, water, and dessert. All applicable Eventbrite service charges and fees as well as gratuities, taxes, and a $3 per-participant, per-credit fee set by the Puerto Rico Supreme Court's Continuing Legal Education Program are included. Tickets available online only (exclusively through Eventbrite). Valet parking, which is not included in the ticket, costs $4. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
