About Nubia
Nubia Quele Santos is an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer, actress, and philanthropist, born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and raised in Sydney, Australia. Renowned for her signature style, she is one of the most sought-after Brazilian dance artists and instructors worldwide.
With over 20 years of experience in the dance and entertainment industry, Nubia has built an impressive career spanning multiple disciplines. A well-rounded and highly trained dancer, she has earned numerous accolades, including recognition from Janet Jackson and Carlinhos do Salguerio.
Currently based in Sydney, Nubia founded the highly sought-after New York City-based entertainment company Casa Brazilia. Her choreography credits include major productions in Australia and the U.S., such as the Off-Broadway musicals Rio the Musical and Futurology. She also choreographed Indeed’s first-ever television commercial.
As assistant choreographer and principal dancer for NBC Universal Upfront at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Nubia led a cast of over 60 dancers. She has also performed in the internationally renowned production Mystic India - The World Tour and was a Top 40 finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
Nubia is an in-demand educator who has traveled the globe, sharing her expertise in Brazilian Samba and other dance styles. Teaching is often called her "superpower," as she excels at providing individualized feedback in a fun, constructive way, bringing out the best in each student. In addition, she has commissioned choreography for various dance companies worldwide.
Nubia has been at the forefront of fostering Brazilian Carnaval culture. She has performed in various roles in Rio Carnaval, from Passista to the highly coveted role of Commisao de Frente, reserved for elite dancers. She has also facilitated opportunities for over 300 participants from across the globe to parade in the biggest show on earth, Rio Carnaval, ensuring they have an authentic and unforgettable experience.
Whether on stage or in front of the camera, Nubia’s energy and charisma captivate audiences. Her acting portfolio includes roles in Off-Broadway productions such as OY! and Black Latina and appearances in films like Nowhere to Run and Me, Myself, I. She has also been featured on the hit TV series Deadly Women and in commercials for major brands, including Adobe, Toyota, Turo, and Hoselink.
Beyond the arts, Nubia holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Technology, Sydney, and has completed an acting conservatory program in New York City. Her diverse talents and unwavering dedication continue to make her a dynamic force in the entertainment industry.
This is an Open level Samba Workshop and Improver level or above of Samba no pé is recommended.
