Canada Amethyst Adventure
September 2–7, 2026
Join ECGMS INC for an unforgettable adventure to the Thunder Bay region of Ontario, Canada, home to some of the world’s most spectacular amethyst deposits. This trip offers the rare opportunity to collect beautiful Canadian amethyst, explore breathtaking scenery, enjoy the company of fellow rockhounds, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Members are welcome to stay with the group at the Airbnb. We will gather each evening to share our finds, stories from the day, and enjoy the camaraderie that makes ECGMS field trips so special. It’s $210 per person for eight people then if we get more people, you will be reimbursed for the difference.
Group Food Contribution: $100 per person. Please bring your own alcohol beverages and any specialty snacks you would like during the week that we might not have for you. This will cover breakfast 9/3-9/7

Everyone is responsible for bringing the proper identification required to enter Canada and return to the United States.
Please remember:
• Passport or other approved travel document
• Vehicle registration
• Automobile insurance information
• Any required medications
• Be prepared to declare purchases when returning home.
THE MINES
The Blue Point Amethyst Mine, in Shuniah Thunder Bay, is the only Amethyst mine in all of Canada where insured clubs can organize trips into the working mine to dig for amethyst.
COSTS:
There is no entrance fee to the mine, and no minimum fee. Members will only be charged for what they wish to take home with them.
WHAT TO BRING:
1. Full PPE (steel toes, hard hat, reflective vest, safety glasses)
2. Containers and padding, to take home your digs
3. A four pound (1-handed) sledge
4. A flat tip cold chisel with hand guard (heavy duty)
5. A large sledge for ambitious individuals
6. Short and Long pry bars
7. Bug spray/bug net hat
8. Food + drinks
9. Hot weather gear, hats, sunscreen etc.
💎Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine
Is in Pearl Ontario. You can find beautiful red hematite Amethyst, it’s easy digging and tailings and different areas. It’s great for all skill level visit Diamondwillowamethyst.com FMI the price is $40 per bucket.
Amethyst Mine Panarana
500 Bass Lake Rd Shuniah ON Thunder Bay area known for producing outstanding amethyst specimens in a beautiful setting. Admission is $12.50 per person for groups like ours. It includes a 15 minute walking tour that explains the history, geology and neurology of thunder Bay Amethyst. Fee for Amethyst $6 per lb there are no hammers allowed. There are no tools needed. It’s tailings only.

• Follow all safety instructions.
• Stay hydrated throughout the day.
• Dress for changing weather conditions.
• Help keep our collecting areas clean.
• Respect private property.
• Share your knowledge and encourage new members.
• Most importantly… have fun!
Every field trip is an opportunity to learn something new, make new friends, and experience the excitement of discovering treasures created by Mother Nature millions of years ago.
WHERE ELSE TO STAY:
There are no accommodations at the mines and camping is not permitted on site, however visitors are recommended to check out the wonderful local businesses:
1. The Mirror Lake camp grounds are a 10 minute drive from the mine. They boast incredible prices, kind owners, and wet/dry/powered camp sites for both tents and trailers/RVs.
2. Black Bay Resort is 25 minutes away, and has cabins at a fantastic deal, as well as a number of tent/trailer sites, and a lakeside sauna.
3. Thunder Bay is a 45 minute drive from the mine, with numerous hotels and motels ranging from the inexpensive to high end.
Ouimet Canyon: 500ft wide and thousands of feet long, the Ouimet Canyon has trails, boardwalks and viewing platforms. An isolated Arctic biome, it’s filled with Arctic flora and fauna usually 1000km north.
Eagle Adventure Park: In Eagle Canyon, it features Canada’s longest suspension bridge, and an over canyon zipline.
