Camping for a Cause: Join Us to Make a Difference

In 2023, nearly 9,784 people in North Carolina were homeless, with 3,443 living in places not meant for habitation. Many of our neighbors in Hickory face these same struggles daily.

We’re raising awareness and understanding by transforming our campus into a temporary home for the night—and we want you to join us!

What: Camping for a Cause
When: January 22–23, 10:00 AM–10:00 AM
Where: Safe Harbor Campus; 112 2nd Avenue SE, Hickory, NC 28602

How You Can Get Involved: Determine your level of invovlement

• Set up a tent (or car) and camp with us.
• Donate camping supplies for the ladies we serve who are currently experiencing homelessness.
• Set up a Community Partner table and share what you have to offer with the community.
• Visit our campus for a minute or more.
• Sponsor a camper/tent/car - donation amounts are determined by the giver.
• Watch our live feeds on Facebook throughout the day.
• Join our live feeds as a guest throughout the day and help us talk about the realities of homelessness.

Camping for a Cause: Activities, Support, and Shelter

Join us for a day filled with activities! Our Community Center Staff will provide soup for overnight campers and warm beverages for all attendees.

In Case of Extreme Weather:
If temperatures become dangerously cold, we will activate a "White Flag" operation. A white flag flown at shelters, often referred to as a "White Flag" operation, signifies that the shelter is open to anyone in need during extreme weather conditions, particularly when temperatures are dangerously cold or hot, essentially acting as a signal that anyone experiencing homelessness can access the shelter immediately without barriers.

So if you plan to camp overnight, please be aware that if the temperatures are extreme, then we will open our community center for everyone to move indoors.
