The AfPP Regional Conference in Cambridge on Saturday 8 November 2025, is a unique opportunity for perioperative practitioners to come together, share expertise, and explore the latest developments shaping the dynamic perioperative field. It will cover local issues and topics relevant to perioperative professionals in the Anglia region.

Session 1: Transformation in Pre-assessment Workforce and Service Delivery

Info: OVERVIEW: The session will talk about the importance of pre-assessment to the NHS Recovery Plan, Theatre Productivity and Patient Experience. It will map the challenges of running a nurse-led pre-assessment team and meeting the demands for increased capacity, and how we have utilised training and education and digital tools to transform the model of the pre-assessment workforce and service delivery. // LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Describe the current structure and challenges of nurse-led pre-assessment systems.
2. Reflect on insights gained from developing an entry-level pre-assessment training course.
3. Assess the risks and benefits of applying a functional nursing model in pre-assessment clinics (PAC).
4. Explore the impact and potential of digital technologies in enhancing pre-assessment processes.

Session 2: Prepping and Draping the Surgical Patient

Info: OVERVIEW: In this session, we will discuss the importance of proper skin preparation and draping in reducing the risk of infection during surgery. We all have a role to play in this process. Through practical demonstrations, we will explore the different types of skin preparation techniques used. We will also demonstrate how patient drapes are applied to create a sterile field.
Furthermore, we will discuss the responsibilities of the scrub practitioner and the lead surgeon regarding who should take the lead in patient skin preparation and draping. It is important to determine the most appropriate person to ensure these practices are carried out effectively.

Info: OBJECTIVES: This session explores key considerations in anaesthetic practice, focusing on medicolegal responsibilities, the differences between awake and general anaesthesia procedures, and how surgical technique influences anaesthetic choice. Participants will gain insight into the ethical and legal frameworks guiding anaesthetic decisions, understand the rationale behind awake versus asleep surgeries, and learn how the nature of an operation determines the most appropriate anaesthetic approach. Info: OVERVIEW: Attendees of this session will be hearing about pain management that circles around PACU. While pain control remains consistent in procedure and application, the process is still highly individualized especially when it is influenced by factors like anaesthetic. We will be identifying the simple yet meticulous way of alleviating pain from that of ward and the recovery unit. // LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. A to E approach in assessment for post-operative pain management.
2. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management and nursing consideration in recovery.
