Calligraphy: For the Love of Lettering

If you have ever wondered what is involved in learning calligraphy, this may be the perfect class for you. Your Creative Coach, BerylAnne, has been doing calligraphy (both personally and professionaly) for over 50 years and has extensive experience in a variety of scripts. Unfortunately, this art form isn't as popular or well-known as it used to be and her goal is to encourage more interest in writing by hand. She will be demonstrating four (4) different popular calligraphy scripts and providing an opportunity for you to try each one. The purpose is to see for yourself what is involved if you were to decide to learn the "art of beautiful writing" for yourself. It's not an expensive hobby to start and is so satisfying as you practice the lettering drillsAll the specific tools of the craft of calligraphy will be set up so that you can play with each script and see if you enjoy the process. There is something incredible about being able to do calligraphy not only because it looks so beautiful but that it is such a relaxing and rewarding hobby to have and if you are good at it, you can actually turn it into a small side gig!The 4 scripts we will be looking at are:Copperplate, Cursive, Modern Brush and a Journaling script called Romany.This is NOT a class where you will learn 4 scripts but simply have a chance to explore what's involved, looking at all the tools, doing calligraphy in colour, brush markers, centering, using a light table, various paper and inks, etc.Water, pop, coffee, tea as well as pre-packaged snacks such as chocolate bars and chips are provided but if you wish to bring your own snacks/drinks, please feel free to do so.The workshops are in the Studio located on the lower level so you will be required to go up and down one flight of stairs (*with sturdy banister) independently.Preferred registration by e-transfer to [email protected] or if you prefer, you can also register online using EventbriteIf you have any questions or want more information on this workshop, please contact BerylAnne directly at 403.483.7270 or by email at [email protected]
