Callery Pear Buyback Event - Johnson County Residents

Cut down an invasive Callery pear tree on your Johnson County residential property, and exchange it for an ecologically beneficial, 3-gallon native-species tree for FREE!

Our friends at the Johnson County Stormwater Management Program financially supported this event! All trees are sourced from Forrest Keeling nursery.

To spread awareness about how the invasive Callery Pear tree (Pyrus calleryana) causes harm to economics and the environment, Contain The Rain, Deep Roots, and our municipal partners are hosting our third Callery Pear Buy-back event for residents in Johnson County, Kansas.

Here's how to participate:

1. Cut down a Callery pear tree on your Johnson Co. residential property.
2. Capture a photo of your downed tree, possibly with a person or home in the shot for perspective of scale. You'll show this to volunteers or staff at pickup time.
3. Submit your registration on this site.
4. Show up between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm on 05/09/26 to pick up your free tree.

The offer is limited to one native tree per household.

When you register, you will be reserved ONE native tree. Available varieties include

• Serviceberry
• Washington Hawthorn
• White Fringetree
• Flowering Dogwood
• Yellow Buckeye

Tree availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are available for specific trees.

Participants are invited to pick up their trees during the Deep Roots Native Plant Sale, at the south parking lot of the Prairie Village Municipal Building, 7700 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. May 9th, 2026, starting at 10am.
