About this Event

Venue: The Bar Convent Living Heritage Centre, York.

This two-day in-person event will create opportunities for conversation and exchange on issues concerning the impact that community music has on those who engage in its practice.

Question might include:

  • What is the significance of the music-making experience for participants?
  • What is the personal, social, and musical impact of being a part of a community music project?
  • How can community music experiences extend beyond the project itself, impacting the participants' personal lives, musical journeys, and engagement with broader communities or future musical endeavours?

Guest Speakers:

  • Þorbjörg Daphne Hall, Acting Vice Rector of Research for the Iceland University of the Arts.

To Participate

We invite anyone interested in research surrounding community music practice to participate in these two days of discussion, critique, practice, networking and sharing of ideas. To submit a proposal to participate, we are asking that you outline a rationale for participation and what you would like to contribute, addressing the following questions:

  • Why is the topic of this event important to me?
  • What key questions can I bring to the table and why?
  • What am I particularly interested in discussing at the event?
  • What might I contribute via a 5-minute lightning talk?
