Calgary Nature Journal Club: October 24th at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
About this Event
October 24th at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
Time: 1:30-3:30pm
Meeting Spot: 2425 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 4T4. Meet outside of the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary Info Building (Google maps here)
Join us for an afternoon of nature journaling at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, where we’ll explore the changing landscape of the Bow River valley and look for signs of autumn and fall migration.
October is a wonderful time to slow down and observe the birds, plants, trees, and other wildlife moving through this unique mix of forest, wetland, and river habitat.
You might choose to sketch a bird, study the shape and texture of a tree, capture reflections on the water, record a plant preparing for winter, or simply make a page about something that catches your attention. We’ll provide prompts and reference materials to help you get started, but there’s no set project and no expectation of creating a “perfect” drawing.
Nature journaling isn't about making art perfectly — it's about paying attention. Come curious, notice the small things, and see what you discover when you take the time to really look.
We’ll meet from 1:30–3:30 PM and spend approximately two hours outdoors exploring and journaling together.
Materials: Basic art materials and reference materials are provided. We encourage you to bring your favourite supplies or sketchbooks if you have them! Please bring what you need to comfortably be outdoors (chair or cushion, sunscreen, water).
Age Restrictions: This event is designed for adults and older youth and is not suitable for young children. While we work on creating meets for young families, at this time we are best suited for school aged children and adults. Any children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Donations: This is a free community club. If you'd like to help cover the cost of shared art supplies and keep the club running, optional donations are always appreciated but never expected. You can e-transfer [email protected] or donate cash at an event.
Please Note: Calgary Nature Journal Club is a community-led group, not a professional guiding organization. Participants attend at their own discretion and are responsible for their own safety. We cannot be held liable for injuries, accidents, or loss or damage to personal belongings. Please assess your own abilities and come prepared for the terrain and weather.
