Calgary by 1914: Maybe Not a Beautiful City, But a Practical One
About this Event
Carol Kehoe will discuss early twentieth century Calgary’s vision of a beautiful, clean and healthy city, a pre-First World War vision that even included plans for incinerating municipal waste! Follow along Carol’s journey in learning about the planners, public health officers and engineers convinced of the merits of incineration, and the workers that dealt with the everyday reality of managing the city’s garbage. Meet the individuals and groups that shaped the past and future of waste management.
