The Caldwell Men’s Chorus announces its fall concert to be held in the Sanctuary of Lenoir Presbyterian Church, 1002 Kirkwood Street NW, Lenoir on Saturday, November 22nd at 7:30 PM. The concert is free and open to the public. The first half of the concert will contain songs with women’s names in the title. The second half of the concert will be filled with gospel music and spirituals. A love offering will be collected. The concert is dedicated to Mrs. Patsy Riddle for her excellent, selfless service to Caldwell County music throughout the years.
Musical selections include “Pretty Saro,” “Juanita,” “Maria,” “Sherry Baby,” “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” “Just a Little Talk with Jesus,” “Ride the Chariot,” “Swing Down Chariot,” “Praise His Holy Name” and “John the Revelator,” among others. Director Keith Smith says the audience can always count on a few surprises along the musical journey.
The Caldwell Men’s Chorus consists of 27 volunteer singers, ranging in age from 24 to 85. The singers alphabetically are Dennis Bell, David Bigelow, Tim Boone, Kyle Canerday, William Cogdell, Bradley Davis, Jonathan Duncan, Lucas Duncan, Sherrill German, Reggy Greene, Bill Hall, Michael Haney, Carroll Hoyle, Barry Jarvis, Robert Marshall, Doug McCowan, Duncan Meeks, Trev Moore, Duane Mozingo, Glen Neal, Allen Norrod, Hight Reid, Tony Ruppard, Doug Saunders, Norm Sherwood, Ken Thwing, Rankin Whittington. The accompanist is Sherry January and the Director is Keith Smith. All of the men are bonded by the common thread of loving to sing and being able to sing close harmony. The group sings throughout Caldwell County, the Unifour area and other parts of North Carolina, but is based in Lenoir.
Director Smith says, “I am very proud of our singers and their ever increasing musicality and professionalism. We always aim for consistent excellence, having fun and fellowship while doing so. We are the best kept musical secret in western North Carolina. You owe it to yourself to come see what we’re all about. I guarantee you will leave with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”
Once again, the concert is free, though a love offering will be collected. The chorus operates on your generous donations. No tickets are needed but show up early, as the auditorium quickly fills. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. For further information, contact Smith at (828) 322-3169.
