You are invited to the Cal Poly Black Alumni Community's 2026 Black Legacy Weekend, taking place Friday, July 24, through Sunday, July 26, on California's beautiful Central Coast.
This immersive event invites you to embrace the richness of Black heritage and excellence in an atmosphere of joy and empowerment. Throughout the weekend, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. Engage in thought-provoking conversations, connect with inspiring leaders and celebrate the achievements of the Black community.
All events are free and open to all alumni. See the Eventbrite agenda for details about each event and customize your itinerary for the weekend. Registration is required, and space may be limited. We also have Black Alumni Community shirts available. Shirts are available for pre-order only until Thursday, July 23. Limit one shirt per alum.

Friday, July 24: Black Legacy Weekend Kickoff
Host: Rod & Hammer Rock (SLO Brew Rock), San Luis Obispo
Info: Join us as we officially kick off the 2026 Cal Poly Black Legacy Weekend at the sprawling Rod & Hammer Rock (855 Aerovista Pl, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401), just down the street from the San Luis Obispo Regional Airport. This casual evening gathering is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with fellow alumni, students, families, and friends before a weekend full of celebration, community, and memorable experiences.
Guests can check in for the weekend, pick up their pre-ordered Black Legacy Weekend t-shirts and alumni swag, and enjoy food, drinks, and conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Please note that The Rock Restaurant is an all ages venue. The tasting room is 21+.

Saturday, July 25: Pismo Preserve Hike
Host: Pismo Preserve, Pismo Beach
Info: Start your Saturday morning with a nature hike in the Pismo Preserve (80 Mattie Rd, Pismo Beach, CA 93449). We will meet at the picnic tables in the parking lot, near the restrooms at 9 a.m. Participants can use the restrooms before we depart at 9:15 a.m. on the Lone Oak Trail. The hike is an easy 2.2 mile loop, with approximately 265 feet of elevation gain via gentle switchbacks. It offers stunning panoramic views of the coast. We'll rest at the Lone Oak Scenic Viewpoint before completing the loop and returning to the parking lot. Parking at the Pismo Preserve lot is $5 per vehicle. Credit cards and mobile payments are accepted at the on-site pay stations in the main lot. Please bring water, snacks, appropriate footwear and sun protection. Saturday, July 25: BBQ Lunch

We're firing up the grill and serving up a feast fit for royalty at the SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel (2241 Price Street, Pismo Beach, CA 93449). Perched atop the bluffs in beautiful Pismo Beach, the location provides a laid-back coastal vibe with family-friendly fun and sweeping Pacific Ocean views – just steps from direct beach access. Grab your appetite and join us for delicious food, great company, and unforgettable memories. The barbecue is an all-ages, family friendly event.

Saturday, July 25: Cal Poly John Madden Football Center Tour
Host: John Madden Football Center, Cal Poly
Info: Return to San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly's campus for a group tour of the newly opened John Madden Football Center. Guests will have the opportunity to see how this 35,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art training center came together and learn about its namesake alum John Madden (Physical Education, '59) and his commitment to excellence. Guests will meet at Mustang Memorial Circle directly in front of the center. The tour begins promptly at 4 p.m. Parking is available in the C2 lots on campus at no charge (on Campus and Cuesta Ave). Space is limited on the tour and guests must add the event to their itinerary when completing their order form.

Saturday, July 25: Alumni and Community Reception

Info: To close out Saturday's activities, alumni and friends are invited to an evening at Region. (979 Morro St, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401) for a wine reception that's as lively as it is delicious! Discover California wine like never before, where you can taste, learn and connect directly with local winemakers through curated flights. Tickets are $25 and include appetizers. Beverages and additional food are available for purchase. This is a 21+ event.

Sunday, July 26: Optional Sunday Service

Info: To close out the weekend, alumni and community members are invited to gather for an optional Sunday service at one of two alumni-affiliated churches on the Central Coast. All are welcome to enjoy a religious service in an inclusive atmosphere where community, culture and faith come together. Agape Church (950 Laureate Ln, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405), which is operated by alumni Dr. James Johnson-Hill (Psychology, '96) and Anicia Bonds Hill (Child Development, '98), will offer service from 10 to 11:30 a.m. More information can be found at https://agapeslo.church/.
