About the Cairns Cenotaph
First unveiled on ANZAC Day in 1926, the Cairns Cenotaph was built to honour local men and women who served and made the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War.
Now standing proudly on the Esplanade, it has become a lasting symbol of remembrance for all who have served in conflicts past and present. For 100 years, it has remained a place where the Cairns community gathers in reflection, gratitude, and respect.
This event is open to all. Veterans, families, schools, and community groups are warmly invited to attend and be part of this historic occasion.
Together, we honour the past, reflect on the present, and ensure these stories of service and sacrifice continue to be remembered for generations to come.
