Cagliari Self-Guided Walking Tour: Historic City Walk
About this Event
Cagliari isn't just a stopover before the beach. It's a city where Roman ruins sit next to medieval towers, where a Spanish fortress opens onto one of the best views in Sardinia, and where every street in the Castello district has a story worth knowing.
This self-guided audio walking tour was created by Matteo, with local insight from Gianluca, born and raised in Cagliari. The result is a route that makes sense on foot, feels authentic, and gives you real context for what you're seeing, not a list of facts, but an actual understanding of the city.
The walk starts near the port and moves naturally upward toward Castello, Cagliari's medieval heart, before looping back down. Along the way, you'll pass through the Bastion of Saint Remy with its sweeping panoramic terrace, the Lion's Gate and the iconic Elephant Tower, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Roman Amphitheatre carved into the rock, and the Cittadella dei Musei, home to Sardinia's most significant archaeological collections. You'll also pass through the San Benedetto Civic Market, one of the largest covered markets in Europe.
The pace is entirely yours. Stop for coffee, lunch, or a museum visit and pick up where you left off. The narration feels like walking with someone who actually knows the city.
Fits comfortably into a half day. No group. No fixed schedule. Just Cagliari, at your own pace.
It's a tour guided by Exploro app, you will have the stops pinpointed on the map and the directions explained at each stop in case you need them.
