Café des Idées in Wellington - Multilingual kids & Multi-skilled teachers
About this Event
The next Café des Idées, organised by and , is honoured to host Dr Fiona Smythe and Dr Rosemary Erlam for a captivating discussion on multilingual kids and the multi-skilled teachers who support them in France and Aotearoa New Zealand.
With growing numbers of multilingual children in schools on both sides of the world, teachers face real challenges supporting heritage languages alongside French or English. Drawing on research from France and Aotearoa, and a new bilateral project between Université de Bordeaux and the University of Auckland, our speakers share what it takes to turn linguistic diversity into a classroom strength.
Dr Fiona Smythe is a Postdoctoral Researcher at l'Université de Bordeaux and a FAST! Vincent Salomon Travel Award recipient. Dr Rosemary Erlam is Associate Professor at the University of Auckland, leading its Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Teaching Linguistically Diverse Learners.
