ABOUT THIS EVENT
Welcome to the Caen Hill Locks Open Day!
Come join us on Saturday 8th February at Caen Hill Locks for a fun-filled day exploring the historic locks. Starting at 10:30 AM, you'll have the chance to step behind the scenes and learn about the fascinating history of the locks and what it takes to keep them working in 2025.
Bring your family and friends along for a day of adventure and discovery at Caen Hill Locks Open Day. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to experience one of Wiltshire's most iconic landmarks up close!
Set foot where visitors aren't usually allowed by exploring the inside of a lock, or take a guided tour to learn about the amazing heritage and ecology of this scheduled ancient monument.
You'll also meet our skilled teams and volunteers who protect the canals all year round, and find out more about the important work we do locally to #KeepCanalsAlive. In the winter, some incredible feats of engineering take place on the canal - now's your chance to see the Kennet & Avon Canal as you never have before.
As well as guided walking tours, there will also be lots of other activities for all ages to get involved in, including trails and orienteering around Jubilee Woodland, educational activities and games for children, and you'll even be able to step aboard the 'Admiral' our narrowboat and welcome station. You can also find out more about volunteering to support your local canal.
Caen Hill Cafe will be open throughout the day, providing delicious food and refreshments.
Dogs are welcome to join, but we ask they remain on a short lead and with consideration of other walk participants.

PARKING INFORMATION
Parking may be limited as there are only 50 spaces in the Canal & River Trust car park, so please consider this when planning your journey. If you are able to travel green and come by foot, bike or public transport, we would encourage you to do so.
USEFUL INFORMATION
The event is taking place outdoors in early February so please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. The site can get quite muddy and if you are taking part in any guided walks or activities in the woodland, we would recommend walking boots or wellies to keep your feet clean and dry!
All ages are welcome, but children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.
ACCESSIBLITY INFORMATION
Most of the site is accessible for wheelchair users, including parking and access to the cafe, however routes along the flight and into the woodland are typical of a countryside location and have more limited access.
