‘By The Hand’ explores Merric Boyd’s expressive drawing practice through observation, colour and mark-making in a relaxed studio workshop.
About this Event

Inspired by the expressive drawings of pioneering Australian artist Merric Boyd, this contemplative workshop invites you to slow down, observe closely and reconnect with the simple pleasure of drawing by hand. Reflecting on Boyd's belief in art as a lifelong practice of observation and wonder, this workshop celebrates drawing as an immediate and intuitive form of creative expression.

Through a guided discussion of Boyd’s lyrical landscapes, trees and still-life studies, you will explore how Boyd used line, colour and gesture to convey the energy, movement and spirit of the world around him. Observational and experimental drawing exercises will introduce mark-making, colour layering, perspective and visual storytelling. Suitable for all experience levels, this workshop encourages you to consider how artists express mood, memory, humour and emotion through simple materials and techniques. You will be encouraged to embrace spontaneity, curiosity and joy in the creative process while developing your own unique visual language.
