Butthole Surfers: The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt will screen across all Bay Area locations with one special showing accompanied by a livestream Q&A featuring Director Tom Stern joining Butthole Surfers members Paul Leary, King Coffey, Jeff Pinkus, and Gibby Hayes for a conversation moderated by musician Bob Forrest on Monday, August 24. Audiences get the opportunity to get an exclusive deep-dive into the band’s four-decade history, its infamously chaotic live shows, and the making of the documentary every bit as unruly as its subject.

The film tells the story of how two accounting students from Trinity College in San Antonio found solidarity in their weirdness, recruited like-minded misfits – queers, weirdos, and nonconformists like naked performance artist/dancer Kathleen Lynch – and embarked on one of the most radical rock journeys of all time. Somehow this band, with a defiantly non-commercial name, ended up as a major influence on acts like Nirvana and even scored a No. 1 hit song.

Beyond the band’s story, the film tells the human story of the people behind the band. It gives an intimate look at the five American originals with incredible personal stories.
