Campers will catch, tag, and release monarch butterflies as they migrate through Rotary Botanical Gardens on their journey to Mexico. Feel the power of this incredible migratory pollinator at its release, learn about Monarch Waystations and tagging efforts, and take home seeds, information, and creative projects to continue the adventure at home.
This camp is part of Curiosity Camp: A Hands-On STEAM Summer Series, a new program at Rotary Botanical Gardens designed to spark imagination and bring science, technology, engineering, art, and math to life through interactive experiments, creative projects, and outdoor exploration.
Butterfly nets are available to borrow or bring your own. A snack is included. Please dress for the weather and consider bringing a camera and bug spray. No walk-ins — advance registration required.
Karen Albrecht is a retired Early Childhood Educator from Janesville who has been tagging monarchs for Monarch Watch through the University of Kansas for 25 years. She and John Riek raise, tag, and release monarchs throughout the season from their home in Fort Atkinson.
