Join us this August Bank Holiday for Butetown Carnival 2026—two unforgettable days of music, dance, art and celebration in the heart of Cardiff Bay.
This year’s theme, Heritage in Motion, celebrates the people, cultures and stories that have shaped Butetown for generations. From the historic docks of Tiger Bay to the vibrant community that thrives here today, Carnival honours our shared past while celebrating the creativity, resilience and diversity that continue to define Butetown.
Produced by Butetown Arts & Culture CIC, Butetown Carnival is a community-led celebration bringing together residents, artists, schools, musicians, dancers, community organisations and visitors to create a unique celebration of culture, creativity and belonging.
🎉 The Carnival Parade
The celebrations begin on Sunday 30 August with our spectacular Carnival Parade, assembling outside Butetown Health Centre, Bute Road (CF10 5HR) before making its way through Butetown to Cardiff Bay. The parade culminates at Wales Millennium Centre, where celebrations continue across the Senedd Steps, Pierhead Building and the waterfront.
Expect vibrant costumes, giant puppets, powerful rhythms, live music, dance and hundreds of performers filling the streets with colour, creativity and joy.
🎨 Create Carnival With Us
Carnival doesn’t happen in a day—it is created by the community.
In the weeks leading up to Carnival, we’ll be running FREE Carnival workshops at venues across Butetown and Cardiff. These welcoming sessions give everyone the opportunity to help create this year’s Carnival by making costumes, banners, flags and parade props, learning Carnival arts and performance, exploring Carnival traditions, and sharing the stories that make Butetown such a unique place.
Whether you’re joining the parade, volunteering behind the scenes or simply trying something new, there’s a place for you.
All ages. All abilities. Everyone is welcome.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
