Join us at the Bushwakker Writer’s Corner 7th Edition Author Reading where we celebrate the talents of local authors Courtney Bates-Hardy, Jes Battis, Jesse Rae Archibald-Barber, K. D. Kulpa, and Kofoworola Odunjo. This event is hosted by local author Shane Arbuthnott. Bushwakker will have local food, drinks, and a special dessert for sale while we make ourselves cozy in the year-round Writer’s Corner found near the back of the brewpub.

This event is in-person only and will not be live-streamed or recorded.

About the Bushwakker Writer’s Corner:

Bushwakker is seeking donations of recent publications (2022-24 publication dates) from Saskatchewan authors in all genres to help expand their library within the Writer’s Corner. The books will be available for patrons to read and are to remain in the brewpub at all times.

To be considered for the library, books must be a minimum of 40 pages and professionally bound.

Please drop off a copy of your recently published book (along with purchasing information which can be shared with brewpub patrons) to Grant Frew at [email protected].

Meet our event artists:
Courtney Bates-Hardy is the author of Anatomical Venus (Radiant Press, 2024), House of Mystery (2016), and a chapbook titled Sea Foam (JackPine Press, 2013). She is also the co-editor of apart: a year of pandemic poetry and prose (Saskatchewan Writers' Guild, 2021). Her poems have appeared in Grain, Vallum, PRISM, and EVENT, among others. She is queer and disabled, and one-third of a writing group called The Pain Poets.

Jes Battis teaches literature and creative writing at the University of Regina. They are the author of The Winter Knight (a Canada Reads contender), and I Hate Parties, their debut poetry collection from Nightwood Editions. Their work has won two independent publishing awards, and been shortlisted for both the Sunburst Award in Canadian Speculative Fiction and Ralph Gustafson Poetry Prize.

Jesse Rae Archibald Barber is from Regina and is a professor of Indigenous Literatures at the First Nations University of Canada. His publications include stories in The Malahat Review, MBC Magazine, and mitewâcimowina: Indigenous Science Fiction and Speculative Storytelling, as well as editing the award-winning anthology kisiskâciwan: Indigenous Voices from Where the River Flows Swiftly. His most recent work, acâhkos nikamowini-pîkiskwêwina – The Star Poems, is a contemporary adaptation of traditional star stories in both Cree and English.

K. D. Kulpa is a horror author based in Regina, SK, Canada. COMA is her debut supernatural horror novel. Growing up in a haunted house sparked her love for the paranormal and horror genre. When she’s not reading and writing, she’s going on adventures with her family and researching Canadian paranormal and mysteries for her radio show and podcast, ParaGhoul Paranormal.

Kofoworola Odunjo brings extensive experience in project management, human resources, and equity, diversity, and inclusion from both the private and public sectors. Originally from Nigeria, Kofoworola immigrated to Canada as an international student. She has since flourished in her HR career within the public sector.
Outside of Kofoworola’s professional pursuits, she is an avid volunteer, dedicating her time to various roles such as interview coach, resume developer, career coach, and guide. She is passionate about supporting others in their journey, drawing from her own experiences and insights. Additionally, Kofoworola is an author, having penned "Surviving to Settle," a compelling fictional novel that delves into the immigrant experience with empathy and depth.
