About Lake Minnetonka Lake Minnetonka is known for its unique blend of jazz-funk, inspired by the Minneapolis Sound pioneered by Prince and his associated acts such as Sheila E, The Time, and Jill Jones. Based in Melbourne, the group was formed by composer and keyboardist Adam Rudegeair (The Bowie Project, PBS106.7fm’s ‘Black Wax’), who drew inspiration from the rich, groove-heavy, and electrifying sound that emerged from Minneapolis in the 1980s. Lake Minnetonka has gained a loyal following in both the Australian music scene and internationally, and are known for their high-energy live performances and dynamic compositions.
Lake Minnetonka has collaborated with notable artists such as Dr. Fink, (keyboardist from Prince’s band The Revolution), St Paul Peterson (the original singer of Nothing Compares 2 U) and Sonny Thompson (bass player for the New Power Generation). These collaborations further cemented their place as torchbearers of the Minneapolis Sound, while showcasing their dedication to pushing the boundaries of jazz, funk, and fusion.
Lake Minnetonka’s connection to Prince’s Batman album runs deep, with their 20 minute concert film Year of the Bat, which was made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton’s iconic Batman film. They will be performing their Batman set live at Odeon Richmond for Burtonverse Halloween.
