Bursledon Brickworks was founded in 1897 by the Ashby family. The men worked long hard hours digging the clay by hard, some of the pits were as deep as 40ft. The brickworks had very good transport links by both rail and river.
In 1903 and 1935 the brickworks was extended, producing in excess of 20 million bricks a year.
In 1959 the brickworks became Redland Holdings Ltd. Unfortunately the site closed in 1974 due to costs.
In 2012 the museum was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £666,300. This grant was awarded to help create the museum. Bursledon Brickworks Museum Trust was registered in 2015 and now runs the museum.
