Kolkata’s oldest and eastern India’s largest wholesale market, Burrabazar is a vibrant hub of intermingling of cultures where traditions, languages, cuisines, and stories blend seamlessly. The walk will include locations like the Mechhua Mandi, Cotton Street, Mir Bahar Street (Raja Katra) and the Nakhoda Masjid (Ramzan festivities).FEW POINTERS
• Do wear sneakers or any other form of covered footwear.
• On Saturdays, the area bustles with activities and a lot of chaos, providing limitless opportunity for photographic moments. It becomes important to watch your steps and give way to porters, cycle vans carrying heavy load and other vehicles. Recommended for individuals/photographers who are used to navigating the crowd and traffic.
• On Sundays, the activities will be lesser as most of the shops will remain closed but still there will be activities. Expect a more relaxed walk. It offers more quiet, moody and unusual photographic moments. Recommended for individuals/photographers who are not comfortable with crowds and excess chaos.
• We generally explore a couple of buildings during the walk for a sneak peek inside and also a panoramic view of the surroundings. But as none of these are conventional tourist spots, access might be denied any moment.
• Lastly, we earnestly request you to join this walk with an open mind, devoid of any pre-decided frames which you might have seen on the social media. Burrabazar is much more than just a panoramic view of the Howrah Bridge. Let it surprise you!
