Following the sad death of frontman Matt Long in October 2024, two of the remaining members of the multiple-award-winning Catfish wanted to continue writing and performing together.
Songwriter and keyboard player Mike Long and bassist Adam Pyke have joined forces with the excellent Mitch Weaving on drums and superb blues guitarist Alex Voysey to form Burning Rope.
Their new name comes from a Genesis song that touches on themes of loss and coping and is (rather aptly) on their And Then There Were Three album.
Burning Rope will be performing tracks from their new eponymously titled album, released on 12th October, and copies will be available to buy on the night.
In an interview with The Bear Club, songwriter Paul Long said that the feel of Pink Floyd is never too far away with some of their songs, and, as a writer, the early albums of Elton John were always an inspiration. Other musical influences include Little Feat and Gov’t Mule.
Their shows are emotionally-charged events, especially when the old Catfish classics are played. However, these guys are looking forward and the new era of Burning Rope is well under way. Come along, join in and rock out!
