Bumblebee bioblitz at Seaton Park, Aberdeen
About this Event
As part of the Aberdeen Bioblitz join the Bumblebee Conservation Trust to identify and count the different species of bumblebees living in the park. We will meet at Seaton Park car park and then walk to the long borders and spend our time learning about the importance of bumblebees as pollinators. With a few simple steps you can learn to identify the more common bumblebees seen in our parks and gardens. The session will also record the number of bumblebees we see and what plants they are feeding from. This will help participants to consider what they can do in their own garden, allotment or community space to help bumblebees. The session is interactive and will involve catching and releasing live bumblebees for a short period to allow identification.
This session will generally be on flat and even surfaces. There will be a walk required from the car park to the long borders which is on tarmac. We will be on hard standing or grass in the long borders. There is no seating provided so the entire session is standing unless participants bring their own mobile seating.
Note that this event is subject to the weather and could be cancelled at short notice. Participants should wear suitable clothing and footwear plus bring a hat and apply suncream as we will be outdoors for the whole time. We recommend you bring a bottle of water and snack. Sorry dogs are not allowed. Participants should inform the group leaders of any medical concerns before the session starts – such as known allergies to stings or bites.
