Some bumble bee species are disappearing—and we need your eyes and skills to help protect them. Join Overton Park Conservancy and the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation for a training workshop for the Bumble Bee Atlas, a community science project aimed at gathering data needed to track and conserve bumble bees. During this indoor and outdoor field workshop, you will be introduced to bumble bee ecology and conservation and how to participate in the Bumble Bee Atlas as a community scientist. You will learn how to catch, photograph, and identify bumble bees in the field. Together, we'll search the site for bumble bees and learn how to tell them apart from other bees.
Bumble bees are instrumental to pollinating flowers in cities, in natural areas, and on farms. Habitat loss is a key driver of their decline, and the Atlas can help us understand what habitats are important and where we might focus our efforts on protection and conservation. We still have a lot to learn about Southeastern bumble bees, so we need all the help we can get to document where they occur and what habitats and plants they are using.
This event is pay-what-you-can, with a suggested contribution of $10 per person. Please first select a ticket level, and use the donation button if you would like to make an additional gift to support the Overton Park Conservancy and Xerces Society.
