About this Event
100% of profits from this workshop will be donated to a Syrian family in Baalbek, Lebanon.
This workshop is taking place during a day of workshops organised by Nafs Space. Hosted by Olivia Melkonian, this workshop invites participants to collectively challenge the traditional concept of archiving, from motive to medium. Offering a warm space of open dialogue, this workshop welcomes new ideas and explorations of archiving as a practice, alongside practical demonstrations and accessible audio production tools to develop technical skills needed to build your own sonic archive. All experience levels welcome!
Please arrive promptly as the time is quite limited. This rendition of the workshop will have less archival theory, and more space to develop ideas of our own sonic archives and technical production skills.
You do not need to bring anything to the workshop, however if you have a piece of audio you've recorded and would like to share it, please feel free to bring this. In preparation for the workshop, try to actively listen and think about what sounds you want to preserve - this may encourage you to record some audio if you haven't before.
Olivia Melkonian is a producer, DJ and sound artist who has worked across radio, record labels, film production and the cultural sector. Invested in projects of cultural preservation, Olivia archives dialect, ritual and collective memory with a focus on family and the home. Through her practice, she presents memory as a tool of resistance, and recording as an act of revolution.
