About this Event
The roads and houses we build and use are responsible for much of the UK’s waste and carbon dioxide. This session explores new and exciting materials that are making construction more sustainable. Pupils will analyse and investigate natural and sometimes surprising building materials including food and fashion waste, mycelium (root system of fungi) and more to explore how they can be used to create an eco-friendly urban environment.
The session includes comparing/contrasting, experimenting and communicating, with a focus on pupils using their own creativity and imagination to solve real world problems.
With links to the Science and Geography curriculum the session also cross subjects like Maths, D&T, PSHE and Art.
Session on Mondays and Fridays take place at the Building Centre located in Central London (nearest tube stations: Tottenham Court Road, Goodge Street or Warren Street) and lasts for 1 hour. If your school would struggle to visit the Centre we will in some circumstances be able to visit your school, as long as your school is in Greater London. These sessions are available on Tuesdays. When visiting your school we can deliver up to three sessions in one day.
