Join a jubilee of environmental protection and historic preservation commemorating the rehabilitation of the Wallace House for Revolution NJ.

Reenactor Scott Lance practices historic carpentry “At the Sign of the Adze, Axe, and Chisel” and the Old Millstone Forge Association demonstrates blacksmithing from a mobile forge on the grounds of the Wallace House. Interactive exhibits introduce sustainable materials and traditional techniques including oak and pine, earth and flax, cedar and stone used in the construction of the Wallace House 250 years ago and in the rehabilitation of the Wallace House now underway. The Forest Service features New Jersey’s Big and Heritage Trees and discusses the conservation of New Jersey’s forests today.

🎶 2 p.m. Historical musician and balladeer Linda Russell presents Songs of Nature and the Land from the American Revolution to the environmental movement.

🌳 3 p.m. Somerville Environmental Commission celebrates the planting of the Borough of Somerville’s seedling of New Jersey’s Salem Oak.

“Liberty Lives Here” is presented by the Downtown Somerville Alliance, celebrating America 250 in Somerville, New Jersey, with the sponsorship of the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association, supporters of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites and Proud Partners of Revolution NJ.

🧱 The Revitalization of State Historic Sites is underway “Down the Brook” for Revolution NJ. The historic rehabilitation of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage is supported in part by Semiquincentennial Grants from the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.

⭐ is New Jersey’s official observance of the 250th anniversaries of New Jersey’s first Constitution July 2, 2026 and the American Revolution in New Jersey from 2024 – 2033.
