Starting a new business is an exciting prospect but can be daunting too, as there are so many things to consider.

This full-day workshop can help you take the first steps and will guide you through the 'essentials' of starting your own business!

Delivered in partnership with local start-up support specialists and entrepreneurs, this workshop is designed to help you take the first steps with confidence.

Key topics that will be explored

• Starting my own business - what makes a successful business? Do I have the skills, enthusiasm, and passion?
• Choosing the right business structure affects how much tax you pay, raising funds, how much paperwork is needed etc. So, choosing the right balance of legal protections and benefits is key.
• Registering with HMRC, submitting self-assessments – what you need to know
• Creating a business model, Mission and Vision, The importance of strategy (business, Technology, Sales and marketing), capacity and capability.
• What is a cashflow? How does it work?
• How can I fund my start up business? Loan and grant advice.
• Who are my customers? Where are they?
• Marketing and Market Research. Branding & Social Media.
• What next? Where can I get the help, I need to make my business a success?
• Networking with like-minded people

This workshop should be ideal for aspiring entrepreneurs, individuals looking to turn a hobby into a business, or those seeking a career change within the Shropshire area.

Whether you are starting from scratch or refining your current business, this event will equip you with the essential skills, strategies, and financial insights to help you launch and grow a successful business.

Q1: Is this event free?

A: Yes, it is free for people looking to start a business and SMEs based in the Shropshire Council area (excluding Telford & Wrekin)

Q2: What if I register and can't attend.

A: If you are unable to attend, we kindly request 72 hours' notice. Please cancel your ticket via Eventbrite to allow others to take your place.

Q3: What if I am based outside of Shropshire council area and want to attend?

A: This event is fully funded and free to businesses based in the Shropshire Council area only (excluding Telford and Wrekin)

Please note bookings from outside of this area cannot be accepted and will automatically be cancelled. Thank you for your understanding.

Q5 . Is there parking at the venue?

A: There are 2 car parks at the venue, one just off the roundabout outside the Flaxmill and another behind the site found by following the road past the front entrance.

Registering your vehicle: Please note you do need to register your vehicle on arrival, there will be an opportunity to do this at the event or at reception.

Q6: How can I locate the Stables in the Flaxmill, where the event is taking place?

A: Accessing the Stables: From the car park off the roundabout, follow the path past the Albrew Maltsers sign around to where you will see the signs for both the mill and the café, opposite that is the Stables, featuring two sets of double doors.

Q7: Is lunch included?

A: Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day. Lunch is not included, but you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. The Flaxmill is within walking distance of Shrewsbury Town Centre.
