About the Class:
• No previous experience needed
• No math skills needed
• Build to your personally preferred length - long or short, it’s up to you!
• Learn to cut angles!
• Customize using stencils on hand
• Choice of using a power saw or a hand saw or both!
• Learn to drill holes to secure joints
• Learn glue interactions with wood
• Learn the importance of building with a speed square
• Finishing options include 3-4 stain colors or learn to torch wood for the
rustic farmhouse look.
• Learn to use spray shellac, which is a food safe finish with a shine
• Learn the value of working together and helping each other — of course
you probably already know this. In this class, a second pair of hands will
be very useful. Bring a friend or make a friend!
This class is beginner woodworking or wood crafting, so to speak. The grill caddy
makes it handy to carry all the condiments together to the grill. Plus it gives paper
towels a premium spot on the grill. So, salt & pepper, BBQ sauce and other sauces,
meat tenderizer, other spices — all have a place in the grill caddy that you build!!!
Dress to get dirty — sawing wood creates saw dust. Painting without an apron
mysteriously ends up with paint on the clothes. For me, glue ends up on the
clothes! ??? I will provide face mask to protect your lungs as well as your nostrils. A
limited number of safety glasses will be available — we may have to share?
The class is scheduled for 6 hours, however, once you have finished your project,
you may leave or stay and help others — up to you. We will break for lunch around
12:30 pm. Class begins at 9:30 am and will be over by 3:30 pm.
Class is limited to 8 people. All participants MUST PRE-register to allow for better
preparation and a better overall experience.
Darlene Gunther, teacher, is a hobby woodworker. This will be her first class in a series of skill building beginner classes-one each month.
