Join Growing Point for a hands-on morning building a biocomplete compost pile at Dignan Street Community Garden, offered free as part of the Eco Festival. This session is very much about getting your hands dirty and learning by doing. Together, we’ll build a full biocomplete compost pile from the ground up. During the build process, you’ll learn about the biology-first principles that make this method work — including greens vs browns, soaking versus dry woodchip, processing weeds, turning methods, and how to read a pile for signs of success.
As we work, we’ll also touch on how to get the most out of compost once it’s made, including how much to use, making compost extracts, and Growing Point’s much-loved “mauri brew” for quickly lifting soil vitality.
The knowledge shared during this compost-building day is usually taught as part of Growing Point’s four-part composting course, and is being offered as a one-off free session to celebrate the Eco Festival. While the pile itself is larger than a typical home system, the principles can be scaled up or down and applied in many different growing contexts.
The session is free of charge. Please bring old clothes you’re happy to get dirty, your own drinking water, and a snack.
Hosted by the Growing Point team at Dignan St Community Garden, a Hua Parakore verified regenerative community māra kai at 25 Dignan St, Point Chevalier.
