About this Event
Naturalist Russ Aguilar will lead an adventure through the world of insects, as we explore the waters and woods around Blue Heron Lake in Golden Gate Park. Visiting the pollinator garden on Strawberry Hill, we will find bees and flies rarely seen in other parts of San Francisco, as well as isopods, decapods, and centipedes. At the hill's top, we will look for the butterflies that gather there. On our return to the boathouse, will we examine the water's edge and discuss how invertebrates fit into the broader ecosystem.
Learners of all ages are welcome!
Walk Leader Russ Aguilar:
Russ is a science teacher and naturalist from Marin County. He began his career in environmental education with the National Park Service, which took him to 6 states and the District of Columbia and inspired him to connect urban communities to the natural resources we all share. Originally, he chose to focus on bugs to help his students overcome their fears around being outdoors, and he is enraptured by the beauty, diversity, and intensity of the invertebrate world.
