Join us for Bug Fest, the annual nature celebration where families discover the hidden wonders of the natural world through hands-on activities exploring the fascinating roles bugs play in our ecosystem. The science family festival will be Saturday, April 18th, 10AM to 1PM at Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.
Featuring:
• Hands-on STEM activities
• Live arthropod encounters
• The fan-favorite Eat-A-Bug Club
• A ceremonial ladybug release
• A "Beat-A-Bug" Teddy Bear Clinic hosted by students from the Medical College of Georgia. Bring your stuffed animal.
Community partners include:
• The Mary Kahrs Warnell Forest Education Center & Georgia Project Learning Tree. Bringing animal ambassadors like a gopher tortoise, tiger salamander, tree frog, and other native reptiles and amphibians. Plus an interactive Birds & Bugs activity where families can learn how insects support Georgia’s ecosystems. 🐸
• Georgia Tech Savannah: Hands-on STEM activities connecting science, engineering, and the natural world. 🔬
• Medical College of Georgia Savannah: Hosting the popular Teddy Bear Clinic, where kids learn how to beat a bug by washing their hands and help diagnose and treat their stuffed animals while learning about the “bugs” that can make us sick. 🧸🩺
• Chatham County Mosquito Control: Learn about mosquitoes, mosquito prevention, and see the Mosquito Control helicopter up close. 🚁🦟
• Georgia Department of Agriculture: Discover how scientists track invasive species through Yellow-Legged Hornet Surveillance and why protecting ecosystems matters. See preserved specimens of invasive pests and a Yellow Legged Hornet nest. Plus, stickers and temporary tattoos of invasive pests, coloring projects. 🐝
• Tybee Island Marine Science Center: Explore coastal ecosystems and the fascinating creatures that live along Georgia’s shorelines. 🌊
• Georgia Southern University Biology Students: Get an up-close look at insects, spiders, and other arthropods. 🕷️
• Savannah Bee Company: See a live observation hive and learn why honeybees are essential pollinators. 🐝
Admission to Bug Fest is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $16 for all guests 18 months and older.
