A gentle workshop style drum circle for well-being through rhythm, and much more! Monthly in Burnham-on-Sea.
Rhythmic Nourishment for the Spirit & Soul.
Pause the chaos, connect with the beat of the drum, and play simple, guided, meaningful rhythms, with intention, enhancing the mental, emotional and spiritual benefits that drumming brings, while creating something quite magical, playing the drum both as a healing tool and as a music maker.

Drumming begins at 10.30am and finishes just after 11.30

Circles are each 'stand alone', though regular drummers will confidently build up a familiar repertoire of beats and techniques.
________________________
Buffalo drums are a Native American style frame drum, also known as medicine drums or hoop drums, sometimes referred to as shamanic drums. They are held in one hand and played with a beater in the other.
You can of course bring your own drum, but no worries if you don't have one, because drums are available to hire for the session. I have contemporary drums which are not made using animal hide (suitable for vegans), and have a wonderfully rich sound, with great sustain. If you have a tubano drum then you can bring that as well/instead :)

What will the Drum Circle involve?
We begin with a short guided relaxation, an affirmation, and snippets of information.
Plenty of drumming and rhythm making together! Playing the drum to make different sounds; group rhythm activities (always fun!); intentional drumming rhythm patterns for energy flow; rhythm weaves to create 'ensemble pieces' (always rather magical!).
We also incorporate other percussion sounds into our drumming - these will be provided - adding texture and depth to the experience.

Using our voices in simple song, chant or mantra may be a part of this drum circle, (but is of course optional), adding power to the healing experience, as well as the musical one.
If you feel inspired to do so, then do get up and dance! (No pressure!)
I aim to create a relaxed and easy environment, with guidance and interesting stuff for you, but also space for your own 'being'.
________________________
Each circle includes an organic freestyle session.
You may have other instruments of your own - this is a great opportunity to dust them off and get them singing! Native American (style) flutes are welcome, as well as chimes, rattles, wood blocks, etc.

You don't need to be a skilled player - it's all about bringing a bit of yourself into the circle!
________________________
You are welcome to join this drum circle simply for the love of drumming, or out of curiosity, or because you have a desire to experience an ancient method of healing. This drum circle has no specific spiritual or religious affinity.
________________________
OTHER STUFF TO KNOW
For grown-ups of all ages; no previous drumming or musical experience needed.
What do you need to bring? A bright smile and a bagful of good vibes! A drink may also be a good idea (the kitchen will not be available), and of course your drum - unless you have booked to hire one.
The doors will be open ten minutes beforehand, ready to begin at 10.30am. The Circle is for a 'generous hour', finishing shortly after 11.30am.
There is free car parking at the venue.

Please note that St Andrews Church Hall is NOT next to the church itself, but is near the petrol station (mini roundabout) on Manor Road B3140 (Burnham/Berrow road), opposite Manor Gardens. (The postcode on here is correct, but I am told that some SatNav systems take you to the wrong end of town!)
________________________
Buffalo Drumming is a mindful, and often meditative, gentle activity.
When drumming we are focussed in the present moment, giving us an opportunity for our thoughts and emotions to take a breath, to pause the chaos and enjoy a time of relative stillness, thus 'recalibrating' ourselves, bringing clarity and a sense of peace.
It is well documented that drumming can help us to deal with stress, anxiety, pain ... and much more, and can instil a sense of calm, joy, and well-being.
