It's our honor to announce "Buddy Merriam's Mandolin Experience" is coming to Fantastic Garden's Greenhouse (67 Avery Ave.) in Patchogue Sunday, November 15th, 1–5 pm.
For those of you who aren't familiar, Buddy Merriam is the supreme authority on the subject of old-timey bluegrass mandolin playing on or close to Long Island. With a career spanning 5 decades, he played with the greats, including Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, cultivated the Long Island Bluegrass community, and has mentored nearly every bluegrass player in the region. On Wednesdays at 6 pm, you can hear him DJ the weekly bluegrass show on 90.1 WUSB.
If you've never heard of Fantastic Garden's, it's an old-school, generationally owned retail nursery. An institution in Greater Patchogue, since 1960 they've cultivated one of the widest varieties of annuals, perennials, tropicals, cacti, succulents, euphorbias, fruit trees, and houseplants on Long Island. They have saguaro cacti 2 stories tall, rare psychedelic-looking begonias, Sensitive Mimosa trees that respond to touch. It's like a museum of plants you can browse all day.
The event will take place in a large heated greenhouse. Rain or shine. Dance floor with a section for seating (bring your own chair). There will be art vendors and a food truck. Doors at 1 pm, music 1:30 pm–5:30 pm. $15 at the door.
Fantastic Garden's is located at 67 Avery Ave., Patchogue, N.Y. 11772 (approx. 0.5 mile east of Rt. 112).
