As part of the Hays County Arts Alliance, Buda Plein Air Paint Out is open to all artists interested in plein air painting. Our intent is to promote outdoor painting and to encourage artists of all experience level, including beginners, to participate in a fun, welcoming, and community-building environment.
The event runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, though artists are welcome to arrive late or leave early. The goal is to create a relaxed day of painting, connection, and creative exchange with fellow artists from across Hays County.
The 2026 theme is “Water.” Artists are encouraged to paint along Onion Creek, a treasured natural feature and one of Buda’s most beautiful landscapes. Artists may paint anywhere within Garison Park.
Artists must bring their own art supplies and surfaces on which to create artwork.

Lunch is included for artists who register by March 2, 2026.
Artists who register after March 2 are welcome to attend but lunch will not be provided.
During the lunch break, we will host a 30-minute plein air demonstration and short talk led by a local, award-winning artist, Gena Destri, designed to be useful for both beginner and experienced plein air painters.

Each site will be open from 9 am to 4 pm. Boxed lunches will be provided for those who pre register at least five days in advance, and each day will include a plein air tips session from noon to 1 pm.
