The Strait of Hormuz: Supply Chain Crises, Opportunities, and the Mitigating Role of Artificial Intelligence

The Strait of Hormuz is no longer a theoretical risk or something that could or might impact supply chains. It is a current and active global crisis, one that has not been experienced since the COVID-19 Pandemic. With global shipping traffic disrupted and oil prices rising, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints is testing the limits of supply chain resilience. This presentation focuses on the Strait, its evolution from Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution to the current conflict. It covers the Strait's importance to global trade and examines the consequences not only for energy supply chains but also for global manufacturing, transportation, and consumer markets. Additionally, it evaluates contingency strategies and supply chain responses, ultimately predicting what the next six months may bring. This presentation also examines the role of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in mitigating supply chain risk and potential disruptions.
