The Buchanan's story (the part that explains why this matters)
James Buchanan was a Scot working in London in the 1880s who built one of the
most successful blended Scotch businesses in history by understanding two
things nobody else cared about: London's English drinkers wanted a softer
Scotch than the smoky Highland stuff Scots drank, and the House of Commons
needed a house pour. He created Black & White Scotch in 1884, got the Royal
Warrant for supplying Parliament, then sold the business in 1925. The Buchanan's
brand is now part of Diageo, where Master Blender Keith Law (who also blends
Johnnie Walker) sources the malts and builds the recipes. The line has been the
top-selling premium Scotch in Mexico and Colombia for decades and has won
Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition repeatedly.

Buchanan's 12 Year (the headliner)
Anchored on Dalwhinnie Highland single malt (1,164 feet up, snow-fed water
source), blended with 12+ year old malts from up to 40 other distilleries.
40% ABV bottling delivers a honey-malt profile that survives ice without
collapsing, which is why it took over the Latin American backbar in the 80s and
never left.
Order it correctly
Over a single big rock, 90 seconds to open, taste again. The honey expands,
a quiet smoke shows up that you missed neat, the finish stretches. This is what
blended Scotch is supposed to do that single malts often cannot: hold structure
